(Ottawa, ON, – June 7, 2010) – The True Sport Foundation is pleased to announce that Investors Group has partnered with the Foundation to launch a True Sport volunteer fund that will provide financial support to the sport groups where Investors Group employees and Consultants volunteer their time.

Modelled after the highly successful and popular Bell Employee Volunteer Fund, the Investors Group Community Sport Volunteer Program will provide a $500 grant to the sport group of an employee or Consultant who volunteers a minimum of 50 hours per year.  Sport groups who receive the grant will demonstrate how they promote True Sport values – fairness, excellence, inclusion and fun – in their programming activities. Eligible Canadian community sport groups include those organized by local parks and recreation associations, schools (except for private schools), community sport clubs and associations, provincial and national team sport associations, faith-based sport organizations and other not-for-profit groups or charitable organizations who organize community sport events.

“Investors Group is proud of the countless hours our employees and Consultants volunteer in community sport,” said Richard Irish, Vice-President of Community Affairs for Investors Group.” Their commitment and dedication is making a powerful and positive contribution to the quality of life in their communities.”

Sport and recreation makes up the largest part of Canada’s voluntary sector, accounting for 28% of all volunteer positions and approximately 2.2 million volunteers.

“Without the contribution of volunteers we would not have sport in our communities,” said Victor Lachance, Executive Director of the True Sport Foundation. “Supporting volunteerism in sport is an investment in the health of our communities. Even more Canadian communities will benefit when other companies follow the leadership that Investors Group and Bell have demonstrated in recognizing their employees for the critical hours that they volunteer to sustain community sport and enrich the lives of our children.”

To date, the Bell Employee Volunteer Fund has distributed more than $2.6 million dollars to sport groups on behalf of more than 3,000 employees who have volunteered a minimum of 50 hours per year.
