Events & Awards
The Canadian Sport Awards is an annual celebration and recognition awards program that showcases the achievements of Canada’s amateur athletes and the coaches, volunteers, sport leaders and corporations that support them.
The ceremony celebrates excellence in sport and honours athletes and leaders who compete and inspire us throughout the year. Leaders from the sport and corporate communities gather to honour the pinnacle of commitment and competition in Canadian amateur sport.
Each year the True Sport Foundation manages the awards program in conjunction with the True Sport Road Trip (TSRT). The TSRT is designed to engage and inspire school-aged children in sport. The Foundation organizes a community outreach effort in the host city of the Canadian Sport Awards, taking athletes to a community school and exposing students to the positive accomplishments and empowering stories of some of Canada’s top amateur athletic heroes. The TSRT encourages the students to practice value based and participate in value driven sport. Annually, the CSA finalists (attending athletes) spend a few hours at the school to read, play and talk with students to demonstrate how sport can lift the human spirit and to encourage them to follow their own dreams.
Sports Day in Canada is a new national event that celebrates sport at all levels across Canada. Using the model that CBC created for Hockey Day in Canada and building off the momentum of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Sports Day in Canada is an opportunity to showcase all manner of sports, while mobilizing the nation in the power of being active. Sports Day in Canada will be the culmination of a week of sporting events and festivals, celebrating grassroots sport stories, engaging citizens in physical activity and rallying local organizations to provide participatory opportunities in communities across Canada.
Canadian Sport Week is a new program, currently being developed by a group of organizations wishing to raise awareness about what sport offers to Canadian society. The intention is to have a week-long celebration of sport that engages Canadians from across the country.
