What types of projects/programs are eligible to receive a True Sport Community Fund grant?

There are countless ways that a True Sport Community Fund grant could positively impact your community and provide a lasting legacy for your children and youth. Projects that create or enhance the sport experience targeted at low income, Aboriginal and/or new Canadian families as well as projects that integrate low income, Aboriginal and new Canadian families into existing sport programs are eligible.

Examples of possible initiatives include, but are not limited to, creating new or expanding existing sport programs that address common barriers to participation for low income, Aboriginal and new Canadian families such as accessibility to equipment, facilities, and transportation or language and financial issues; creating a sport program that offers a safe and welcoming environment and alternative to poor lifestyle choices such as inactivity, poor nutritional choices, gang-related activity or alcohol and drug abuse; creating non-traditional sport opportunities that may have a broader appeal to Aboriginal or new Canadian children and youth such as soccer, cricket, rugby, wrestling, archery, etc.; providing volunteer, coach and official training and certification to engage parents and adults within the community; improving and creating new playing surfaces in communities that may not otherwise have such facilities or where children and youth traditionally have to travel extensively to access sport.

For examples of how the grant could be used, see the True Sport Community Fund Sample Grant Application Scenarios.

Do I have to declare to the True Sport Movement to be eligible for a True Sport Community Fund grant?

No, however, the True Sport Movement celebrates the sport Canadians want: a sport built on values that bring out the best in people. True Sport is about athletes, parents, coaches and officials across the country giving voice to the great good that sport can do not only for individuals and their teams but also for the neighbourhoods, the cities, or the towns they live in. If your community or organization believes that values-based sport has the power to shape your community, you can make a positive and deliberate commitment to the Movement by declaring your community, organization, school, team, league, facility or as an individual to the True Sport Movement.
