2005 Phase Two Recipients

Bell Canada, in partnership with the True Sport Foundation, announced the second group of grant recipients of a $1 million investment in community hockey and soccer programs for youth.

The Bell Community Sport Fund awarded $5,000 grants to forty-five communities to improve access to community sport. Four additional communities received grants of $25,000 each for projects that showed legacy potential. More than 270 applications were received before the June 15 deadline. Applications were evaluated based on their level of inclusion, good governance and the potential number of participants affected.


$25,000 Recipients

The Regional District of Central OkanaganThe Regional District of Central Okanagan (Kelowna) will use its grant to provide a new ‘pond hockey’ program for local youth. Funds will purchase the equipment needed to run the program. Funds will also go towards coach and first aid training and establishing an equipment donation program. During the summer, this program will run as a ball hockey program. Kelowna will use its grant to provide a new ‘pond hockey’ program for local youth. The Prospect Lake Soccer Club The Prospect Lake Soccer Club (Victoria) services more than 50 youth soccer teams and will use its grant to install lighting on their new soccer field to extend the use of the field seven days a week into the evenings.

 

 

 

The City of Surrey, Parks, Recreation & CultureThe City of Surrey, Parks, Recreation & Culture (Surrey) will use its grant to install synthetic turf goalmouths at Forsyth Park to increase the safety and length of time the field can be used and increase opportunities for local youth to play in the Whalley Soccer Club.

 

 

 

The Boys and Girls Club of CalgaryThe Boys and Girls Club of Calgary (Calgary) will use its grant to purchase equipment and sustain their existing summer and winter soccer program which is offered free to underprivileged immigrant children to build self esteem, promote physical activity and create a bridge to other opportunities in the community.
