True Sport Foundation is committed to ensuring that sport makes a positive contribution to Canadian society, to our athletes and to the physical and moral development of Canada’s youth.

2005 Phase Three Recipients

Bell Canada, in partnership with the True Sport Foundation, today announced the final group of grant recipients of the Bell Community Sport Fund. In Phase III the fund distributed a total of $340,000 to 52 Canadian communities. Forty-eight communities were awarded $5,000 grants and four additional communities received grants of $25,000 each for projects that showed legacy potential (Vancouver, BC; Vulcan, AB; Killaloe, ON; Sudbury, ON). More than 840 applications were received before the September 15th deadline.


$25,000 Recipients

Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards Recreational Hockey (Killaloe) Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards Recreational Hockey (Killaloe): Grant will be used to expand this community’s lone recreational hockey program supported solely by volunteers. The funds will be used to install a concrete floor in the existing facility to extend the season, and provide an indoor venue for ball hockey during the summer. Funds will also help construct a storage facility and purchase equipment for a shared “gear bank” program.

Sudbury Canadians Soccer Club (Sudbury)Sudbury Canadians Soccer Club (Sudbury): Grant will be used to develop a “Soccer Outreach Project” to provide increased accessibility and promote youth participation in sport. The program will organize soccer clinics at 22 local elementary schools during the winter and offer seven summer soccer programs in low income areas. The funds will be used to purchase equipment, hire instructors and produce education materials for the program.

Vulcan and District Recreation Board (Vulcan): Grant will help improve access to soccer in the community by completing the construction of a new soccer field and assisting with coach and referee development programs.

Strathcona Community Association (Vancouver): Grant will be used to partner with a local elementary school in one of the area’s economically challenged communities to create year-round soccer programs for youth. Funds will be used to hire a coordinator, purchase equipment, train coaches and host tournament days.
