2006 Phase One Recipients

Bell Canada, in partnership with the True Sport Foundation, announced the first group of grant recipients of a $1 million investment in community hockey and soccer programs for youth.

The Bell Community Sport Fund awarded $5,000 grants to fifthy-nine communities to improve access to community sport. Six additional communities received grants of $25,000 each for projects that showed legacy potential. More than 450 applications were received before the April 30 deadline. Applications were evaluated based on their level of inclusion, good governance and the potential number of participants affected.


$25,000 Recipients

The Bell Community Sport Fund awarded $25,000 grants to the following communities: 

Association québecoise de sports paralytiques cérébraux

Association québécoise de sports pour paralytiques cérébraux will use its grant to fund a pilot program for adapted (disabled) soccer in Québec. The soccer program will be offered free of charge with all the necessary equipment provided to each player.

 

 

 

Montréal SoccerAssociation de Soccer du Sud-Ouest de Montréal will use its grant to level the surface of their soccer field and repair the bordering fence. The funds will also help renovate existing washroom facilities, purchase equipment, and provide direct financial assistance to deserving families.

 

South Dundas

South Dundas Soccer Association (Iroquois) will use its grant to purchase all the materials needed to refurbish two soccer fields and build an equipment storage facility to expand the capacity of their youth soccer program.

 

 

Lambeth

Lambeth Youth Soccer (Lambeth) will use its grant to irrigate a main soccer field and install lighting and wheelchair parking. In addition, the funds will be used to pave a path and special section to allow greater access for special needs spectators.

 

Trenton SoccerThe Quinte West Soccer Association (Trenton) will use its grant to help build two new soccer fields to expand the capacity of its youth soccer program.

 

 

 

CoquitlamCity of Coquitlam, Leisure & Parks Services will use its grant to purchase 25 complete sets of hockey equipment to start an equipment lending program. Equipment will be loaned out and reused on an annual basis to help reduce barriers to participation in their Learn to Play hockey program. Funds will also help offer the program at a reduced rate for lower income families.
