True Sport Foundation is committed to ensuring that sport makes a positive contribution to Canadian society, to our athletes and to the physical and moral development of Canada’s youth.

2007 Phase Two Recipients

Bell Canada, in partnership with the True Sport Foundation, announced the second group of 2007 grant recipients of the True Bell Community Sport Fund. The Fund awarded forty-five (45) communities with $5,000 grants. An additional thirteen (13) communities received grants of $25,000 each for projects that showed legacy potential.

More than 500 applications were received before the October 1st deadline.

$25,000 Recipients

The Bell Community Sport Fund awarded $25,000 grants to the following communities:

Dawson Creek Curling Club
(Dawson Creek, BC)

The grant will be used to expand the Junior Curling program targeted to at-risk youth in the community. Funds will be used to purchase new equipment to enable curling in schools, provide uniforms and coaching and volunteer clinics.

City of Surrey, Parks, Recreation & Culture
(Surrey, BC)

The grant will help fund the Surrey I’m Game Program which allows disadvantaged youth to learn and participate in various team sports. Funds will help purchase equipment, awards and uniforms.

Field Hockey BC
(Vancouver, BC)

The grant will be used to purchase equipment and create a new six-week field hockey program for local youth.

West Shore Parks & Recreation Society
(Victoria, BC)

The grant will be used to increase accessibility and expand local youth basketball programs by providing funds to help install outdoor lighting on two existing basketball courts.

Boys and Girls Club of Edmonton
(Edmonton, AB)

The grant will be used to help fund a flag football program for disadvantaged youth, run in conjunction with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Special Olympics Alberta
(Edmonton & Calgary, AB)

The grant will be used to increase accessibility for youth with disabilities to play soccer and help subsidize registration fees.

Robert Land Community Association
(Hamilton, ON)

Hamilton RLCAThe grant will help make youth hockey, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer and football programs accessible to disadvantaged youth by subsidizing equipment costs.

Town of Newmarket
(Newmarket, ON)

The grant will help develop sledge hockey and basketball programs for disadvantaged youth by subsidizing equipment.

Gloucester Cumberland Basketball Association
(Ottawa, ON)

The grant will help make basketball programs accessible to disadvantaged youth in the community.

Pinecrest Public School
(Ottawa, ON)

The grant will fund a new weekend volleyball outreach program for disadvantaged and at-risk students.

Ontario Volleyball Association
(Toronto, ON)

OVAThe grant will help develop a new volleyball program for disadvantaged youth across Ontario by purchasing equipment, developing program materials and training of clinicians.

Netagamiou School Soccer Field Infrastructure
(Chevery, QC)

The grant will help create a soccer infrastructure for youth in the community, providing funds to construct a new soccer field and purchase equipment.

Quebec Association of Wheelchair Sports - Wheelchair Mini Basketball
(Montréal, QC)

The grant will be used to purchase additional wheelchairs and increase accessibility to the sport by expanding into other regions in Quebec.
